I find it helpful to have a general framework – or philosophy if you will – that guides how I might best provide help to others. Employing the principles of Process Work supports me in providing the kind of environment that encourages awareness of each person’s life as it unfolds in the moment. Seeking to embody this sense of alertness and encourage it within the individual creates a habit of internal self-reference that is a powerful tool for awakening to life.
Process Work is a continually evolving paradigm developed by psychologist Arnold and Amy Mindell and colleagues. It combines modern physics, Jungian psychology, Taoist theory, and the shamanistic sense of relationship with nature and the world to encourage the discovery of meaning and creative insights into the problems we all face.
I first encountered Process Work three years ago when I read Arny Mindell’s book Dreaming While Awake as part of my investigation into various forms of dream work. His concepts and philosophy felt very alive to me and as I read more and more books by this original thinker and prolific author I became even more intrigued. After taking a World Work seminar with Arny and Amy Mindell last year, I decided to become a student of their method and am now studying in the Process Work Certificate Program.
I incorporate Process Work into my practice by maintaining an attitude of non-judgmental curiosity during sessions, looking for the flow of the life process as it is happening and seeking to become an intelligent instrument for that process.
